Regulatory compliance

Reduce assessment scope and prove you have done it

Non-production environments are the blind spot of many compliance programs: they contain real personal data and rarely appear in the record of processing activities.

The problem

The regulation doesn't distinguish between production and staging

For data protection officers and information security leads.

A wider scope than expected

Every environment that contains personal data falls into the assessment's scope, even if nobody declared it.

Evidence reconstructed after the fact

When the review arrives, proving what was transformed and who approved it usually means rebuilding a history that nobody logged.

Frameworks keep piling up

GDPR, Chile's Law 21.719, DORA or ISO 27001: each framework is reviewed separately and every audit starts from scratch.

The policy lives in the committee

A document exists that says how to handle the data, but nothing in the systems verifies that it is followed.

How it's solved

Less personal data and more evidence

01 · Discover

Know where the personal data is

Field-level classification with a risk level is the starting point of an accurate record of processing activities.

02 · Govern

Have the evidence before it's requested

Every discovery generates a report that is signed and stays immutable.

03 · Anonymize

Take the personal data out of the environment

Non-production environments stop containing real personal data.

Frequently asked questions

Questions from compliance leads

Does anonymizing take data out of GDPR's scope?

Irreversibly anonymized data stops being personal data. It depends on the technique: synthetic data without a persistent dictionary cannot be traced back to the original; format-preserving masking keeps part of the value and remains personal data. The legal assessment belongs to your legal team or your DPO.

What evidence can I give an auditor?

Signed PDF audit reports with who started the discovery, which labels changed and who made the change, plus the dictionary export that documents the transformations applied.

What do DORA and ISO 27001 say about non-production environments?

For financial entities subject to DORA, Delegated Regulation (EU) 2024/1774 (art. 16.5) requires non-production environments to only store anonymized, pseudonymized or randomized production data, with limited and approved exceptions (art. 16.6). ISO/IEC 27001:2022 includes data masking (8.11) and the protection of test information (8.33) among its controls. Gigantics provides the transformation and the signed report; the compliance assessment belongs to your legal and compliance teams.

Does it also apply to Chile's Law 21.719?

Yes. Law 21.719, which comes into full effect on December 1, 2026, protects personal data regardless of the environment where it is processed, including development, testing and analytics. Gigantics provides the same capabilities as in a GDPR program — discovery, anonymization and signed reports. We explain it in detail in this article. The legal assessment belongs to your legal team or your DPO.
